IN THE NEWS March 16, 1979   -The Sands has crooner Tony Bennet and comedienne Joan Rivers playing to SRO audiences nightly. Take a good look at the photo of Joan Rivers on this cover and (keep in mind that it was 1979) compare it to how she looks today. Is she a wonder of modern medical science, or what?

"Every year for Playboy magazines Sex and the Cinema special, I would make the long trek up to Mt. Charleston (30 miles away) to photograph Marilyn. Her and husband Chuck Traynor (Linda Lovelace ex-husband/producer), became great friends. I had never seen any of her movies and didn't want to see them so they couldn't influence any of my photography of her. They often brought pizza over to my house and shared with my kids. When my son was about 10 years old, he got her to autograph a Vegas Visitor cover of her. He and his friends may have been too young for her films but they sure knew who she was. She used to tease me, saying that I was the only photographer that closed his eyes when she opened her legs. She knew I was a shy guy from the Mid-West and always enjoyed making me blush!" -RSH
