Bob Newhart's career began as a stand-up comic known for holding one-sided phone conversations. In 1960 he released "The Buttoned-Down Mind of Bob Newhart", which became the first comedy album to reach the top of the LP charts and earned Newhart three Grammy Awards. His frequent performances on the Jack Paar and the Ed Sullivan Shows, solidified his spot as the most popular comedian of the time. He went on to star in two hit television shows in the 1970's and 80's and became a household name.
